Welcome to JaymanOnline

Home to my photography portoflio, web and layout ideas and anything eles I happen to be interested in at the moment.

This site has evolved a lot since I first aquired this space in 2002 and has become different things but I hope that this new look and content will continue to be an interesting source of interest and a small portal into everything that I’m interested and involved in, currently and in the future.

Please feel free to visit all the links and bookmark this site to visit again. I will try to keep up with this site more then in the past and aim post new articles, blogs and pictures as often as possible.

BlogingOnline

In keeping up with the times I will be devoting this site more to the fad of the blog revolution that is taking over the internet that some have termed the “blogosphere”. So in additon to my photographs and links I’ll be adding commentarty to round out this site more. Enjoy! I hope to get comments enabled soon too.

All  that Glitters

Well tonight is Oscar night. I won’t be watching it as it won’t start till 1:00 am local time and I got my jogging day and Monday work to keep up with. I have not seen any of the films up for big ones this year so I will reserve from commenting on individual movies. It is nice to see some smaller films being up for big awards for a change then the usual Hollywood fair. Despite all the hype and controversial topics this year including 3 dealing with gay topics, 2 with strong political themes and two  including a foreign film dealing with terrorism.

Regardless of whoever wins tonight there is one positive note  and that is that people will be thinking, they bring up deep subjects that none of the ‘Kate’ and ‘Jacks’ of Oscar nominees have touched on and I think it will cause an awakening of the public that are searching for more answers. I think this year more then any there are messages being loosed via this medium (we saw it last year too with Million Dollar Baby) as it is time in our world and history for people to make decisions that will shape how they react to things in the future.

Getting an award really does not legitimize anything to me it just means that those who made it spent so much time and effort/talent to make it and that only makes me wonder why. One film alone took seven years to push through; this is not something they did on a summer trip to Wyoming, Why would a great director devote so much time on this? Ultimately because he chose to, that is what he believes in and the story he wanted to tell the world and I think it only stands to reason there are many others who will be choosing too and it is our job to give them the answers (something films rarely include) before it is too late.

The Crunch

One of my New Year’s resolutions has been to exercise daily which I’ve been able to keep so far all but three days since Jan 1. It is not much but something to keep the fat cells from running rampant and something psychologically to get back in shape before I turn 30 in the fall. I have a little routine of three days, one day jog (3.8km or about 2m), the second day arms and chest and the third stomach as that is really my weak area despite having a strong stomach I have a bit to much “padding” that I’m trying to work off. My routine has been going for more then two months so I looked up some new things in one of my old magazines and found some great simple floor work with a ball that really mixed things up for me and kept my abs guessing. It’s amazing how simple things like stretching to put a ball though your legs for example can really get your tummy working. I’d gone to gyms before for heavy work but do not have time these days but there are plenty of things to do in my room ‘gym” to keep in shape and keep my workouts from being mundane.

Graphics Gallery

Well it has been slow in coming but I’ve added content to the web/graphics tab. Before I had other stuff there but have since been axed as I want to keep this site from selling any services and just be for galleries and commentary. There are some things there that I hope some people will find interesting, though nothing web at the moment.

I have a dream...
Well, more like an idea or euphoric mental serge of inspiration. I’ve recently been watching and listening to some music clips done by independent full time volunteers and it is truly amazing the level of talent that they are able to do without sophisticated cameras or editing equipment. It is a personal goal and dream of mine to one day to direct/produce (and film if needed) a music video of some of the TCD songs that come out as pictures can bring a songs message home with a good interpretation and direction. Similarly I think there could be a big vacuum for documentary style films (an upgrade or more “handheld” feel then the The Vine format) as we are all involved in full time volunteer work it is just a matter or having a clear story to tell and knowing how to tell it. This idea was though to have a Family “film festival” (music video, documentary, animated etc.) where those that have a hand in it can show their work and have workshops sharing ideas tips etc. and develop skills to do even better jobs next time. My dream is to host it on the Croatian coast as it is just a fantastic setting for such a thing (think Mediterranean old town watching on an outside projector screening in the evening after time on the beach) and would be a cool incentive for people to come for some time (3-7 days) depending on the amount of material being screened. Like I said it is just an idea, the bands and singers get to have organized rock concerts like Wordstock and EuRock why can’t there be something for film clips? Sure it would be a bit different not being coupled as a teen fellowship but if kids are doing audiovisual editing CVA or acting, music or journalism I think it could be a good place for young people to showcase what they’ve done and to learn from others who have put some things together to screen. Perhaps we can hold classes on these subjects by CVA instructors or have guest speakers like Johnny B, Benny, or Gabe Iowa who are veterans of this and have used their talents in this field and have successfully incorporated these talents into their service as full time missionaries for many years now.

Sure I might have to wait till the millennium to see this take place but then again who would have believed if they’d had heard areas holding big rock concerts for teens 5-10 years ago but with good ideas and the right timing and support it happens. Anyone out there reading this who wants to help/ talk or share ideas just drop a line and we’ll see where this goes.

Musical Key

Have you seen the “Mr. President” video clip from Fool Moon? It is awesome, tightly performed rock music with a real message. I had been waiting for someone to capture the feel and sound for our generation what many were able to pen in the protest music of 60’s - 70’s.

Well it finally arrived.

Sure Madonna, Eminem and others have jumped on the anti Iraq war ban-wagon in their albums of the last few years but they just come off as being politically motivated or giving their audiences what they want to hear. This is anything but pleasing to mans governments and I don’t think any group from any political circle will embrace it and that is a good thing. Apparently they have sent a copy to the White house for Mr. President but I doubt he will ever see it, probably given to security labeled WMD, but the world will know anyway.

This song and accompanying video clips strip it down to the very core and that it is wrong to fight and kill others in wars and to send others to do it, plain and simple. The clips aside (that I think should have concentrated more on real footage from Iraq from news sources then from war films.) the filming of the band is very well done, the presence of violin in hard rock provides a unique musical sound that coupled with raw guitar leads provides a real musical treat with a driving beat that amasses to a full-scale onslaught to both your head and your conscience leaving you forever changed. One thing for sure you will have an opinion one way or another leaving you mad, sad or glad like real music ought to. link (full album review coming soon)
